Brass Ensemble

Brass Ensemble

The Brass Ensemble is suitable for all brass players. A wide variety of music is played, with plenty of opportunity to play with the whole range of brass instruments.

Instruments:

all brass instruments: trumpet, cornet, trombone, baritone horn, French horn, tuba

Grades:

Suitable for brass players of all standards and experience.

Clarinet Choir

Clarinet Choir

The Clarinet Choir consists of about 15 young musicians playing all sizes of clarinets from E flat to contra-bass. The more unusual instruments are provided by the Music Centre.

The repertoire is a wide range of classical, jazz and light music, much of it specially arranged for clarinet choir.

Instruments:

clarinets of all sizes: alto, standard, tenor, bass, double-bass.

Grades:

suitable for more experienced players of grades 4 to 8. Previous experience with the larger instruments is not necessary.

Concert Strings

 

The Concert Strings gives an opportunity for all string players to play orchestral music. It is for moderately experienced players. This orchestra rehearses in the Autumn and Spring terms - in the Summer term it foms the basis of the Youth Orchestra, which is for all orchestral instruments.

Instruments:

orchestral string instruments: violin, viola, 'cello, double bass.

Grades:

suitable for less experienced players of grades 3 to 5.

Flute Choir

 

The Flute Choir gives flautists the opportunity to play rare and valuable bass and alto flutes, and encourages the playing of the piccolo. Flute choirs have some beautiful music written and arranged for them.

Instruments:

piccolo, flute, bass flute

Grades:

suitable for more experienced flute players, grades 4 to 8.

Intermediate Strings

Intermediate Strings

Intermediate Strings is a string orchestra for younger players with limited experience. Music is arranged to suit individual standards. This orchestra provides a good introduction to playing in a group. The emphasis is on developing technique and expanding repertoire to increase confidence in developing players.

Instruments:

violin, viola, cello, double bass.

Grades:

suitable for young players of grades 1 to 3.

Next Steps Ensemble

 

Next Steps is for complete beginners. If you can play three notes on your instrument you should join us! The ensemble is suitable for all instruments - guitars, recorders, keyboards, whatever you play. You can learn to play some great tunes, improve your playing and make new friends. North Devon Strings

This is an experienced group which plays the repertoire of the string orchestra - Vivaldi, Corelli, J.S.Bach, Mozart, Pachelbel, Peter Warlock.

suitable for more experienced players of grades 6 to 8.

North Devon Youth Orchestra

 

The Youth Orchestra combines all sections of the orchestra to play orchestral music. The orchestra plays a wide range of romantic, classical and baroque music. It only rehearses in the Summer term.

all orchestral instruments: violin, viola, 'cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion.

Grades:

suitable for more experienced players of grades 5 to 8.

String Training Orchestra

 

This group provides an opportunity for complete beginners and inexperienced string players to develop their skills by playing together.

Instruments:

violin, viola, cello, double bass

Grades:

this group is for beginners of grade 1 or below

Wind Band

This group provides an opportunity for wind players of all abilities to develop their skills by playing together.

Instruments:

all wind and brass instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, cornet, trumpet, horn, trombone.

Suitable for wind players of all standards and experience.
